Financial Aid and Osap

Planning for your education is a major decision, and we understand the financial implications it may have. Post-secondary education is among the biggest investments you'll make, second only to owning a home. That's why we're here to help you explore various resources and learn about OSAP to discover accessible financial support options for your educational journey. Remember, these are investments that open doors to endless opportunities for your future success.

OSAP

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a financial aid program in Canada that provides eligible students with loans and grants to help cover the cost of their post-secondary education.

Funding

OSAP offers funding through a combination of grants, which are funds that you do not have to repay, and student loans, which you need to repay once you have completed your studies. When you apply for OSAP, you are automatically considered for both grants and a loan. However, if you prefer not to take a loan, you have the option to decline it after your application is approved. It is crucial to pay close attention to the application deadlines to ensure timely submission and consideration for OSAP funding.

Eligibility

To be eligible for OSAP, you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person. You need to be an Ontario resident, enrolled in an approved post-secondary program, and demonstrate financial need. Full-time students usually need to take a minimum course load, while part-time students have different requirements. Meeting these basic eligibility criteria is important to qualify for OSAP funding.

Students with
Disabilities

If a student has a permanent disability or a persistent or prolonged disability, they could be eligible for full-time OSAP funding. To be considered for this benefit, the student must self-identify as having a permanent or persistent or prolonged disability when applying for OSAP. The application will then require a Disability Verification Form, to be completed by the student and healthcare provider, confirming the disability status and nature. Approved disability status on the OSAP profile for the 2022-23 academic year can qualify the student for the Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities (CSG-D), providing $4,000 in financial support.

Applying

Students should apply for OSAP when the application launches in the Spring.

Based on the public announcement, students will be eligible to receive full, upfront funding for tuition, books, and other direct educational costs.  UPFRONT grants are provided and honored in exchange for years of service.
